Jazzopen
Vom 8. bis 17. Juli 2016 verwandeln die jazzopen stuttgart die Landeshauptstadt wieder in einen Hotspot für Musikfans. Die 23. Ausgabe des Festivals strahlt mit einem besonderen Highlight: David Gilmour, Gitarrist und Sänger der legendären Kultband Pink Floyd, gibt am 14. Juli 2016 im Rahmen seiner Welttournee „rattle that lock“ ein Konzert auf der Open Air Bühne am Stuttgarter Schlossplatz. Dort gastieren die jazzopen zum ersten Mal fünf Tage lang: Neben Van Morrison, Santana, Cro meets Jazz und Jamie Cullum ist Gilmour der letzte bestätigte Act der Hauptbühne und komplettiert damit die „Big Five“ am Schlossplatz. Ein weiteres Festival-Highlight wird die lange Jazznacht mit dem Chick Corea Quintet und dem Branford Marsalis Quartet mit Kurt Elling auf der neuen Bühne Liederhalle. Neu ist auch die Festivalbühne im Scala Ludwigsburg: Hier treten Keb’Mo‘ und The Stanley Clarke Band auf. Die Veranstalter rechnen an den zehn Festivaltagen mit über 30.000 Besuchern. Auftakt ist erneut die Verleihung der German Jazz Trophy im Eventcenter SpardaWelt – dieses Jahr an Klaus Doldinger. Dort finden zudem Konzerte mit dem Avishai Cohen Trio, dem Turtle Island Quartet und The „Eleventh House“ Reunited statt. Auch die Clubbühne BIX bietet hochkarätiges Programm bei intimer Atmosphäre, darunter Nils Petter Molvaer, Ester Rada, Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Steps Ahead, Cyrille Aimée und Christian Scott. Als Opening Acts sind außerdem dabei: Lizz Wright und DANA LEONG & Band am Schlossplatz sowie Ruthie Foster im Scala.
